YouthWorks - Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvannia Groups
June 20-21, 2011
The first YouthWorks groups of the 2011 season arrived from Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to some spectacular weather. With a lack of sleep the two mile hike seemed to invigorate the PHP Trail Crew. We began where the local Rutland High School had left off just the week before on the Shimmer Trail. A beautiful lunch on the fractured quartzite Overlook of Rocky Pond gave a little rest before an afternoon of rock and dirt moving. Day two had everyone walking up the old Pond Rd. throwing rocks off to the side of the newly graded road on another beautiful day. Some quality stone wall building and the amelioration of the old trail brought us nearly to the very top of the Overlook. A super great bunch of generous and hardworking people! All the many people who will use this trail for all the future will enjoy the very good work done up the trails these two days!
My deep appreciation,
-Michael Smith
PS. Remember that huge rock you guys dug up in the pit and we decided to leave on the backside rim?... Well this week’s crew from NJ, Rochester, NY and Baltimore decided that it was a moral imperative to give it a better home. We put it right up smack at the top of the switchbacks that we completed... Beautiful reddish flat side forward! I’ll include a picture in the gallery!
Work on the lower switchback portion of the upper portion of “The Shimmer Trail”
Please don’t forget to upload your own photos and communicate this site to others in the group so that everyone can see the great work done!
There are buttons on the top of the gallery to do both!
Okay!!!!. ... so today I brokered a deal with the local screen shop... They have a few guys who mtn.bike in the park all the time...
They did these at the screen shop's "cost"... $5 per shirt.. (Pretty darn great!)
So: really high quality t-shirts (pigment dyed organic cotton) in either Sky Blue or Black which is really more of a nice aged dark grey. (The shirts feel like they’ve been worn for about 5 years but are new)
They have the Park Logo on the front left breast and the the GIS contour map of the park with all the trails on the back.
The Sky Blue we have in Youth Large (nice for small girls - basically a Small but not as long) and S, M, L, XL, XXL... the Dark Grey in just S, M, L, XL, XXL...
If you'd like some... what we would like to do is just get one order from each group ... so that we don't have a myriad of postal addresses... If this is something you'd like or be interested in... I'm going to give you Shelley (our 501c3 secretary's email address) shelley.lutz@gmail.com Just give her Numbers and Sizes in each Color T-shirt and we’ll get them out to you!

Everyone who has been riding and hiking the new stuff has been very appreciative!
It came out amazing!
