YouthWorks - NJ, NY, Maryland Groups

June 27-28, 2011

The second YouthWorks groups of the 2011 season arrived from NJ, Rochester, NY and Baltimore Maryland. After an introduction to the park at the trailhead we hiked up to Rocky Pond to the top of the switchbacks on the new Shimmer Trail. Some of the group split up and worked on a few major water problems on the Overlook Trail beyond the Suspension Bridge with Shelley, while the rest of the group made headway across toward the Overlook Rocks. The second day was muggy but sights were steadfastly set on finishing the remaining switchbacks up to the top of the Shimmer Trail. Lots of rocks were moved to form the corners, while lots of dirt was dug to fill in the many roots and rocks that were removed from the treadway. In the final 15 minutes the amazing pit crew pulled out an incredible 30 buckets of dirt allowing us to fill in all the remaining holes and finish the trail. A great thanks to the awesome effort made over the two days to finish out “The Shimmer Trail”. It had been many weeks of work on many people’s parts to get the trail from the Arch Bridge all the way to the summit. Thanks for completing the final section. Many people will enjoy the beautiful scenic Overlook of Rocky Pond as a result of this trail.

My deep appreciation,

Work on the upper portion of “The Shimmer Trail” to Overlook Rocks

Okay!!!!. ... so today I brokered a deal with the local screen shop... They have a few guys who mtn.bike in the park all the time...

They did these at the screen shop's "cost"... $5 per shirt.. (Pretty darn great!)

So: really high quality t-shirts (pigment dyed organic cotton) in either Sky Blue or Black which is really more of a nice aged dark grey. (The shirts feel like they’ve been worn for about 5 years but are new)

They have the Park Logo on the front left breast and the the GIS contour map of the park with all the trails on the back.

The Sky Blue we have in Youth Large (nice for small girls - basically a Small but not as long)  and S, M, L, XL, XXL... the Dark Grey in just S, M, L, XL, XXL...

If you'd like some... what we would like to do is just get one order from each group ... so that we don't have a myriad of postal addresses... If this is something you'd like or be interested in... I'm going to give you Shelley (our 501c3 secretary's email address) shelley.lutz@gmail.com    Just give her Numbers and Sizes in each Color T-shirt and we’ll get them out to you!

Click Here to see what the T-shirts look like!

Everyone who has been riding and hiking the new stuff has been very appreciative!

It came out amazing!

Please don’t forget to upload your own photos and communicate this site to others in the group so that everyone can see the great work done!

There are buttons on the top of the gallery to do both!
