YouthWorks - Michigan Group
June 22-23, 2009
After a grueling GPS error filled trip all the way from Michigan, the group was the first of the summer to begin work in Pine Hill Park.
We couldn’t have asked for a better start! All the switchbacks up the steep first section of Svelte Tiger were skillfully resurfaced. The long requested banked corners were carefully crafted, adding ease around the turns and putting a stop to the many mtn.bike crashes off into the woods! These will make traveling up that steep section a much nicer experience for the many runners and bikers who regularly use this trail who can now accelerate through the corners to carry momentum up the hill. This is our most used trail to enter into the back recesses of the park, and this will give many people of many varying ages and abilities the opportunity to enter up into the park! Additionally, the lower section of the Furlough Trail that had been a nuisance for years was completely resurfaced, offering a much safer trail for bike and foot traffic exiting out of the southern portion of the park.
On behalf of all the many people from our community who will use these trails now, and 100 years from now, a great thanks to all the excellent people we had in this group, including a wonderful set of group leaders who in concert made the opening week of Youth Works a wonderful way to start the season!
My deep appreciation,
-Michael Smith
