http://www.pinehillpark.org/php/Velco_PHP_Volunteer_Day.html Pine Hill Park and the community that uses its trail system each week thanks VELCO for its generous support! On Wednesday August 12th over 35 VELCO employees and family members volunteered their time to three major projects within the park: Nearly 80 perennials were planted with the wonderful direction of the Master Gardeners in the trailhead gardens. The central bed was weeded, mulched and finally planted, giving a beautiful view for the nearly 1700 users that use the park weekly. On the Upper Giorgetti Loop a steep section of trail was re-routed with a 100 foot switchback to allow safer and less erosive travel for the many people that use the pedestrian trail. On the Escalator Trail a number of water diversions were installed to prevent any further erosion concerns for park users accessing the upper multi-use trail system. Finally, a load of Trex Decking was donated for the many bridge projects that continue over streams and muddy sections throughout the park. This is the third year that VELCO and its employees have participated in improvements and support of the park. In years past a pedestrian walking bridge was installed over a particularly rough section of the Lower Giorgetti Loop. A rock garden was constructed in front of Elephant Rock. Over-grown trees and brush were removed along Preville Avenue’s entrance into the park opening a lost view of the East Creek. Finally, in the weeks following the great wind storm that hit Rutland some years ago, VELCO and its professionally skilled tree crews cleared untold trees and branches from the lower pedestrian trail
